Effective License Management
CodeMeter offers you flexibility by enabling you to save your licenses into a dongle or into a PC-bound license information file. While CodeMeter stores licenses securely, License Central from Wibu-Systems allows you to easily create and manage those licenses.
License Models using CodeMeter with License Central
Using CodeMeter and License Central allows you to map any license model:
- Single user licenses: only one user per license
- Network licenses: users can access the software via the network
- Modular licenses: individual modules (or features) or your program have separate license, allowing you to lock or unlock parts of your application
- Time-limited licenses: lease your software with a license that limits the length of time it can be used
- Pay-per-use licenses: charge based on how many times the customer uses the application
- Downgrade licenses:
- Hot and cold standby licenses
- Overflow licenses
- Volume licenses: License multiple users under a single transaction.
How CodeMeter License Central works
CodeMeter License Central lets you easily create, manage, and deliver software licenses. You generate a ticket (serial number) which your customer uses to collect the acquired license. At the same time, you define whether the customer stores this license with a CmDongle, binds it to the PC (CmAct), or can choose between the two.
As soon as a ticket has been redeemed (license collected), it becomes invalid and cannot be used a second time. However, License Central enables ISVs to return licenses and re-use them, which makes license transfer, rental, and borrowing possible.
Generally, the ticket is not bound to a CmDongle or a PC. At the time of the ticket generation you also do not have to know which dongle your customer owns. This way you are able to integrate resellers into your sales processes. The reseller gets a certain number of tickets which can then be sold to end users. Ticket generation can be integrated into your ecommerce site or your ERP system.
CodeMeter License Central Editions
The CodeMeter License Central is available in two editions: Desktop and Internet.
CodeMeter License Central Desktop Edition
For use on your own network or PC. The Desktop Edition of the CodeMeter License Central, free to all CodeMeter customers, allows you to easily start to internally manage your licenses. You can do everything you need to do to create items, tickets, and licenses except connect License Central over the Internet via SOAP or web services. For that you need the Internet Edition.
The Desktop Edition is distributed as a VMware® image that can be immediately started on your PC and used to begin creating and managing licenses for your CmContainers (both CmDongle and CmAct). CmDongles can be either pre-programmed or programmed remotely via file exchange. A simple Java or .NET application could be written to create and manage licenses from your desktop.
CodeMeter License Central Internet Edition
CodeMeter License Central Internet Edition (available for a fee as an upgrade from Desktop Edition) lets your customers activate licenses directly via the Internet, and permits integration into your sales and support processes. CodeMeter License Central Internet Edition offers additional modules for automated integration into your sales processes using connectors. For this, the connectors cover the following interfaces:
- Internet gateway to the customers
- Connectors to ERP/CRM systems
- Connectors to online shops
