Wibu-Systems® USA Announces AxProtector for .NET

If obfuscators are analogous to a “crash helmet” protection system, then think of AxProtector for .NET as a” five point safety harness, roll-cage and four sided airbag” protection system.

SEATTLE, WA — (March 31, 2008) — Wibu-Systems USA, Inc, a leading provider of information security solutions for software protection, license management and user authentication, will introduce AxProtector for .NET at the VSlive / Tech Mentor conference in San Francisco this week. Instead of traditional obfuscation techniques, AxProtector brings the power of AES encryption to the task of protecting .NET applications. AxProtector is a part of the highly acclaimed CodeMeter® System developed by Wibu-Systems as a response to 21st Century hacking tools and methods.

“For years .NET developers could only rely on simple activation schemes and obfuscation techniques to try to keep their applications from being pirated for commercial gain” said Marcellus Buchheit, President, CEO and co-founder of Wibu-Systems. “With AxProtector for .NET, application developers will have a tool that not only provides exceptional security, but can open the door for additional distribution methods.”

The AxProtector tool analyzes and disassembles a traditional .NET application and then builds a new application which looks identical from outside (classes, methods, etc) but, is filled with AxEngine Loader Code and then stores the resultant code completely encrypted.

During runtime a called function first executes the AxEngine Loader Code. This decrypts the actual code on demand, converts it into valid MSIL code and executes it. To increase the performance, such decrypted code can be cached or specific methods can be excluded from encryption. The final Assembly is a “true blue” .NET application. AxProtector supports version 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5, for executables and DLLs. The CodeMeter System itself works with Win32, Win64, Linux, Unix, MacOS and Sun Solaris operating systems.

Advantages for End-Users

An important advantage of the CodeMeter System for the end-user is the mobility of the software license. The license is no longer tied to a single computer. Rather it is bound to the CodeMeter USB device (it is called a CodeMeter stick). If the user wants to use the license at work in the daytime and at his PowerBook at home in the evenings; no problem – Simply take CodeMeter and plug it into the computer that will be worked on.

The user has the further benefit of using CodeMeter as a personal “security suite,” bringing computer access control in the form of two-factor authentication, file or document encryption, portable password management and secure flash drive storage as additional built in features.

Pricing and Availability

CodeMeter is now shipping worldwide and is priced according to the size of the onboard flash memory (In quantity, the MSRP for a CodeMeter stick with 256 MB is US $39). Software developers who desire additional information or who wish to obtain a developer’s kit (SDK) can call WIBU-USA at 1.800.6.Go.Wibu.
