- Foundation of Wibu-Systems by Marcellus Buchheit and Oliver Winzenried in Karlsruhe/Germany
- The idea for the first WibuBox as a dongle for the LPT interface was developed
1991
- Change of corporate form to Wibu-Systems GmbH
1993
- First Dongle as a PCMCIA card, introduced at the COMDEX/Fall in Las Vegas
1994
- First product sales in USA via distribution partner Griffin Technologies
1995
- Increase of capital and change of corporate form to Wibu-Systems AG
2000
- All WibuKey products receive the UL listing (Underwriter Laboratories) for USA / Canada
2001
- Foundation of Wibu-Systems USA Inc.
- First WibuKey Hacker’s Contest announced
- Document protection SmartShelter introduced
- Participation in the 5th F & E framework of the European Community
2002
- Platform-independent protection for Java applications
- Wibu-Systems office in China
2004
- CodeMeter/M: first Dongle with flash disk
- iF design Award received in China
- European Patent for CodeMeter principles granted
- Wibu-Systems office in the Benelux
2005
- iF design Award Germany received
- For the first time, CodeMeter is a SIIA Code Awards finalist in the Best DRM Solution category
2006
- Nomination for the design price of the Federal Republic of Germany
- CodeMeter granted patents in the USA and Japan, numerous new patents filed
- Finalist at the SIIA Codie Award in the Best Mobile Solution category
- Wibu-Systems office in the UK
2007
- First worldwide announcement of a Hacker’s Contest with CodeMeter (prize: $40,000)
- CodeMeter in precious and robust metal casing
- Once again CodeMeter is a finalist at the SIIA Codie Awards in the Best DRM Solution category
2008
